Disappearing Bees 1.1 Million Bee Colonies Dead This Year

My interest in the subject of disappearing bees started with Doctor Who, we now know its a real world phenomenon and although its mentioned by Donna Noble, they made nothing out of it with the Sontarans, who are documented as having Bee issues.

This Year over a Million Bee Colonies have Died worldwide, about 35% of all the colonies in the U.S. died last winter. Of those that died, 71% died of natural causes, 29% from symptoms that are suspect colony collapse disorder. Doing the math that comes to at least 10% of all the bees in the U.S. last year died of Colony Collapse Disorder. This is a significant number of colonies. But why are they disappearing and what can be done to save them?

So perhaps this is a real world issue, and will not become part of Doctor Who, its been mentioneda couple of times and perhaps thats it?
