Doctor Who Robert Carlyle tipped to replace David Tennant

Its time for that old question again, who will be the next Doctor Who?

The actor Robert Carlyle is being tipped to replace David Tennant as the next Doctor Who. Bookmaker William Hill is offering odds of 2-1 that the Trainspotting star will become the 11th Time Lord when Tennant steps down from the BBCs hit Doctor Who show.

Speculation is rife that the Scottish actor will quit before the start of the fifth series in 2010. He has refused to confirm the rumours, saying only that he will be doing a string of specials next year.

Other actors tipped to fight the Daleks include Jason Statham (4-1), Alan Davies (9-2) and the Cold Feet star James Nesbitt (6-1). My personal view is after watching the series Jekyll James Nesbitt would make a fantastic Master.

Ooh, I wouldn't mind him. He's proven he can do both comedy and high drama. Not sure how they'll convince a guy who's in that many movies to settle down and become a TV star, but if they could manage it in, say...three or four years when I'm finally comfortable with David leaving... *cough* Robert Carlyle would be great.
